A Brief Overview of the Royal Melbourne West Golf Course

The recipient of an associate degree in business from California State University, Northridge, Daniel Urnick stands out as a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Citizen of the Year nominee who has worked as a general manager with a government vendor since 2005. An avid golfer, Daniel Urnick lists the Royal Melbourne Golf Club West Course as one of his favorite places to play.

Designed by Dr. Alister MacKenzie, the Royal Melbourne Golf Club West Course was completed in 1931. One of the world’s most famous courses, Royal Melbourne was ranked as the best course in Australia in Golf Digest’s 2018 200 Greatest International Courses rankings and has been ranked as the world's sixth-best course by Top 100 Golf Courses. Built on rolling sandbelt land, the course offers picture-perfect greens and crisp bunkers with vertical edges at least a foot high. The par-72, 6,645-yard course is also characterized by its winding nature, as most of the 18 holes feature a dogleg design.

The course first served as the site of the Australian Open in 1905 and has since hosted the prestigious tournament 16 times. Well-known winners of tournaments held at the course include Greg Norman, Tom Watson, and Gary Player.
